Monzo, the UK’s leading digital bank with more than 12 million customers, has today announced a new investment feature that offers customers more choice - introducing Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) that are easy to understand, easy to use, and selected based on what Monzo customers are interested in.

This comes as new research from Monzo reveals the struggle people face between wanting more choice but being overwhelmed by the investment options on the market. This has held back millions of Brits (56%) who are still yet to start their investment journeys, resulting in more than £10,800 sitting in the average UK savings account, just waiting to be put to work.

The research also found:

  • Nearly half (47%) of Brits have put off investing because the overwhelming number of choices makes it impossible to know where to start.
  • This choice overload leaves many feeling stuck and unsure, with over half (55%) lacking confidence in picking the ‘right’ investment when presented with a long list - sometimes thousands long!

But the appetite is there:

  • 3 in 5 (63%) Brits said they’d be more likely to invest if they were offered a simpler way.
  • Over half of Brits (58%) are interested in investing in what they personally care about.
  • Almost two thirds (64%) of Brits think having all their financial activity on one app would make their life easier.

To meet customers’ requests for more choice - without the hassle - Monzo is expanding their current investment offering with a new experience that’s simple, guided, and full of potential. It’s designed to empower confident investors who want more options, while also making it easy and approachable for newcomers just starting out. And the best part? The ETFs are handpicked based on what Monzo customers said they’re interested in.

Monzo’s new ‘Build Your Own’ investment option will first roll out to new investors, followed by existing customers. It lets customers choose from 11 different ETFs - including themed and geographic funds - so they can build a portfolio that reflects what is important to them.

This sits alongside Monzo’s existing ‘Keep it simple’ investment option, where customers can choose from three diversified funds based on their risk appetite - Careful, Balanced and Adventurous – a great place to start for those new to investing.

Here’s what you can expect from Monzo’s new ETF experience:

  • Smart Simplicity: More choice, less hassle. Monzo has handpicked 11 ETFs across themes and regions, so you can invest confidently without feeling overwhelmed.
