Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe is hosting the sixth annual Fujitsu Innovation Gathering today in Stockholm, showcasing an exciting and diverse cross-section of Fujitsu’s latest groundbreaking research and development initiatives to solve social challenges, many on show for the first time in Europe. Among the exciting line-up is a novel cyber factory model that uses state-of-the-art IoT and AI technologies to maximize productivity and quality output across a complete manufacturing site; a new anomaly detection technology designed to enable smart structure health checks, such as bridge infrastructures; a range of advanced, secure blockchain-related solutions including a platform for social welfare distribution; and a co-creation research project with the University of Toronto to deploy Fujitsu’s quantum-inspired computing architecture, Digital Annealer, to optimize cancer radiation therapy.

As part of the Fujitsu World Tour’s ‘Co-creation for Success’ theme, the event is spotlighting a number of important co-creation projects, with a major emphasis on artificial intelligence and security to demonstrate how Fujitsu is collaborating with customers to define and implement digital transformation. These include a healthcare co-creation project in Finland that uses Fujitsu Laboratories’ AI technologies in a new human gait monitoring system to aid postoperative recovery remotely. The combined event features a high profile agenda of keynotes, expert presentations and panel discussions, as well as an extensive exhibition of the latest innovations.

The Japanese Ambassador to Sweden, Mr Jan Yamazaki, is taking part in the keynotes, reflecting the celebration of 150 years’ of trade between Japan and Sweden in 2018. Shigeru Sasaki, CEO of Fujitsu Laboratories and CTO of Fujitsu Limited, is leading the Fujitsu Innovation Gathering keynotes, presenting how Fujitsu Laboratories’ R&D strategy predicts future global trends to solve social challenges with cutting-edge technologies. The agenda also includes a number of thought-provoking breakout sessions on the latest developments in security and blockchain, and an overview of Fujitsu’s Digital Annealer – a unique approach to computer architectures that uses quantum-inspired digital circuits to solve more rapidly combinatorial problems – with a specific focus on how it can be deployed to solve challenges in diverse areas from finance, to medicine and intelligent transport. In order to leverage the Fujitsu DigitalAnnealer, Fujitsu recently launched the Digital Annealer Cloud Service, with the service initially available in Japan followed by a steady rollout to North America, Europe, and Asia during fiscal 2018.

For Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe’s CEO Dr Adel Rouz, the annual Fujitsu Innovation Gathering is a unique opportunity to demonstrate how socially responsible innovation can transform society, commenting: “Our global R&D focus is driven by the principle of improving society, using our cutting-edge technologies to achieve major advances. In Europe, our wide-ranging R&D includes social innovation, security, manufacturing, AI ethics, and high-performance computing applications, with a key focus on how to apply deep learning alongside current and evolving AI technologies in order to create value and exploit data. The Fujitsu Innovation Gathering provides the ultimate showcase for this work, unveiling our latest cutting-edge technologies as well as providing insights into the strategic thinking and vision that underpins our activities. This event unites the resources of all Fujitsu teams across the Nordic region, celebrating Fujitsu innovation and demonstrating the power of co-creation and collaboration.”

Concluding the one-day event, there will be a special “Innovation Award” presented to the best team from five Nordic universities that are competing to solve today’s challenges with the help of digital technologies.
