The FIDO Alliance is an industry consortium launched in February 2013 to address the lack of interoperability among strong authentication devices. Its founding members include PayPal and Lenovo. The FIDO ecosystem enables better security for online services, reduced cost for the deploying enterprise, and a simpler and safer consumer experience. The open-source authentication protocol allows logins to take place with non-password authenticators, protecting against phishing and attacks using stolen passwords.

PixelPin needed to go through a certification process in order to be part of the ecosystem. The FIDO Functional Certification program measures compliance and interoperability amongst products and services.

The FIDO Alliance organises interoperability testing sessions a few times a year and in their September session, the PixelPin Android app was reviewed. Following the review, a Conformance Validation was issued on the 16th October 2017. This allows PixelPin to display the FIDO® Certified logo, demonstrating to the public that they have created a high-quality FIDO implementation. Other FIDO certified products include eBay, Google, Samsung, Sony, PayPal and Amazon.
