OSTTRA’s TriOptima, a leading infrastructure service that helps to lower costs and mitigate risk in OTC derivatives markets, has announced that it successfully powered the inaugural compression of listed Nikkei 225 options at Osaka Exchange (OSE), part of Japan Exchange Group.
The OSE compression service powered by TriOptima, will enable OSE members to reduce their open positions and lower the capital costs of index options. Typically, positions are netted against each other multilaterally, allowing each market participant to reduce their position. The move, further extends TriOptima’s optimisation expertise in the asset class, supporting an ongoing industry wide push to reduce costs when trading derivatives.
"We have been collaborating with TriOptima to provide a comprehensive compression service for our benchmark equity index derivatives. This is the solution to client demand to optimise their outstanding positions and make capital work more efficiently," said Tagaya Akira, Executive Officer with responsibility for market planning and comprehensive exchange development at OSE.
"Underpinning compression services for one of the most liquid benchmark index options worldwide is testament to the strength in this asset class. We expect the service to provide significant benefits, especially as market participation gathers pace over the coming months," added Philip Junod, Senior Director, triReduce and triBalance Business Management.

- Confidence: Half of SMEs are confident that customer demand, as well as turnover, will increase in 6 to 12 months, and the majority expect to grow over the next 3 years
- Investment: 70% of SMEs are planning to ramp up business investment, with a quarter intending to hire staff and upgrade equipment or machinery
- Borrowing: Majority of SMEs believe prudent borrowing is a key growth enabler but no longer view traditional banking products as the obvious or convenient option
- Growth: 81% of SMEs plan to invest in sustainability as part of their growth strategy, while a third are exploring global markets or considering M&A activity within a year
Despite lingering anxieties about the pandemic and a variety of economic and commercial issues, the majority of SMEs believe it is now imperative to begin building back from the crisis. They are ready to step up their business investment, with ambitious plans for recruitment, renewal of equipment and machinery, and both domestic and international expansion. Fintech business lender MarketFinance asked 2,000 SME owners across the UK about their outlook for 2022 and beyond, gauging their short and long-term plans for business investment and growth. MarketFinance has today released a comprehensive research report of its findings, which are summarised here.
Confidence
Analysis of the survey results has shown that business confidence amongst SMEs is improving, with many firms now focused on recovery and growth. With pandemic disruptions now largely settled, half of SMEs (48%) expect their turnover to stabilise or to increase over the next 12 months. Similarly, 50% of SMEs expect demand for their products or services to stabilise or to increase over the next six months. MarketFinance’s research has found that the majority of SMEs (63%) expect their business to grow over the next three years
Investment
With survival mode no longer a necessity and cash flow pressures beginning to ease, the vast majority of SMEs (70%) now feel confident enough to increase business investment over the next 12 months. A quarter of SMEs plan to hire new staff, while 24% expect to purchase new equipment and machinery. When asked how they were factoring borrowing into their investment plans, 23% of SMEs said access to a broader range of borrowing options could enable them to increase investment even further.
Borrowing
The research findings demonstrate that borrowing will play a key role in recovery and growth with 62% of SMEs saying that prudent borrowing could help them fund growth. However, three quarters (71%) of SMEs do not believe traditional banking products are the most obvious and convenient way to borrow for investment. Despite this lack of alignment between current finance needs and the options available through traditional routes, more than a third of SMEs (37%) are looking to take on new borrowing facilities.
Growth
With confidence high and a sense of having moved beyond recovery and into a new stage of growth, many businesses are looking forward to seizing a host of opportunities in 2022. Almost all SMEs surveyed (81%) plan to invest in sustainability, while 30% say they are considering merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the year ahead – more than twice as many as those primarily focusing on organic growth (14%). Over a third of businesses (34%) say they already sell overseas, or have plans to begin doing so. That figure is highest amongst the largest businesses surveyed (turnover between £5m and £6.5m) but even amongst smaller enterprises significant numbers are focused on export.
Anil Stocker, CEO at MarketFinance, commented: “It’s clear that the business environment has shifted and SMEs are looking ahead with a quietly confident and cautiously optimistic view. UK businesses intend to ramp up growth through domestic and international expansion, digital transformation and even M&A activity. But as they reset their post-pandemic goals for a post-pandemic, they’ll need to be confident of their funding base.
Given that so many SMEs are looking outside of traditional routes in their search for finance, we’re particularly proud to have been accredited by the British Business Bank as one of the few alternative providers under The Recovery Loan Scheme. Schemes like the RLS are a golden opportunity for SMEs looking to gear up for growth, providing easily accessible funding at a lower cost across a wide range of products. We expect to see a large number of SMEs taking advantage of the scheme over the next 6 months as their growth and expansion efforts gain momentum and they invest in ambitious plans for 2022 and beyond.”

Today, we announced a new $115M investment into CloudTrucks and I wanted to share a little bit about what this means for the future. First off, we founded CloudTrucks on the idea that the trucking industry has been rapidly changing and getting much more complex, while the owner-operators, the lifeblood of the trucking industry, were being left behind. We wanted to change that by building something from the ground up to ensure that owner-operators — and really all trucking entrepreneurs — have the tools to succeed and thrive in the industry.
We believe that the future of the trucking industry lies in the hands of the trucking entrepreneurs and with this new investment, the largest ever dedicated to building business management solutions for trucking entrepreneurs, we intend to help build that future.
So what should you expect to see from us in the months and years ahead?
Revenue Maximization
Last year, we launched the Schedule Optimizer, an innovative solution to find you the best profit-maximizing loads. We have seen a lot of promise so far and with some new releases planned over the next few months, we intend to see this continue to become a one-of-a-kind dispatcher in your pocket to enable you to continue to maximize your revenue opportunities. We will also be launching new partnerships and programs to introduce new revenue opportunities for our customers.
Improved Cash-flow
We also launched CT Cash, a first of its kind instant pay solution in the trucking industry, on the belief that you should always have access to your money instantly, after your job is completed. So far, it has been a huge success! But we don’t want to stop there. We’ve seen first hand all of the financial challenges that owner-operators have to deal with, from subpar fuel cards, to really expensive financing options to grow your business. Over the next few months, expect to see us continue to launch a lot more products tailored to solving your financial needs as you continue to run and grow your trucking business.
Lower Costs
With the introduction of our Business Intelligence product, we armed our customers with a way to track all expenses, fixed and recurring, in real time on the CloudTrucks app. By keeping track of your expenses, you can also start to better understand how your business is performing in real time. We will be launching a number of new Business Intelligence features to not only help you keep track but also to better predict your business performance. We will also be launching more discounts (in addition to our previously launched fuel and maintenance discounts) to help you lower your business costs.
Fewer Headaches
We are dedicated to having the very best customer support for when things go wrong while you’re out there on the road. We plan to continue investing deeply in expanding our customer support capabilities.
And much more…
Finally, just like we have done with our Road to Independence program (for company drivers looking to become owner operators) as well as introduction of our Flex product line (for owner operators who want to keep their authority), expect us to continue to invest in exciting new products to continue to solve your deepest business challenges.
We are dedicated to building the very best tools to enable trucking entrepreneurs to succeed and we are just getting started. Thank you so much for working with us over the past year and we look forward to continuing to build a better trucking future together!

Mortgage fintech business, Knowledge Bank, the UK’s leading criteria search system has today taken a significant investment to help propel its next stage of growth. Angel Investor and entrepreneur Ying Tan was the founder and former CEO of leading mortgage broker Dynamo. He has today acquired a significant stake in Knowledge Bank and will join its board, becoming non-executive chairman.
Knowledge Bank was set up by Nicola Firth and launched in September 2017. At the point of launch it was the first ever criteria search system and revolutionised the way that mortgage brokers researched mortgages. Previously brokers had relied on spreadsheets, lender websites and help desks to find the right mortgage for their clients which could take hours if not days. Knowledge Bank digitised this, pulling together real time criteria from lenders across residential mortgages, buy-to-let, equity release, second charges, bridging, commercial loans and self-build. It now holds over 125,000 pieces of criteria from over 250 lenders making it the most comprehensive criteria search system available and presenting results in seconds. It has transformed the way that mortgages are searched for.
Investor, Ying Tan, is a seasoned entrepreneur. He has an impressive track record of starting, scaling and exiting transformative companies with a technology edge in the mortgage sector. Ying will be responsible for leading the Knowledge Bank board, formulating strategy and helping to develop its vision. He will also drive a charge for additional funding in order to continue to scale this exciting disruptor and accelerate Knowledge Bank’s growth.
Ying will be joined by his trusted colleague, Penny Desborough, who has been a formidable force and pillar of support in Ying’s companies over the last 15 years. Penny will also take a role on the board as a non-executive director.
Ying Tan says: “Since the successful exit from Dynamo in May, I have been inundated with angel investment opportunities and non-exec roles across many different verticals and industries. With my mortgage and fintech background I have naturally been drawn to firms in this sector. I have always thought very highly of Knowledge Bank, Nicola Firth and her team. They have been – and continue to be - a true disrupter of the mortgage industry. Nicola’s team has innovated a system transforming the way that mortgage brokers search for criteria and lenders themselves both display and use this information.
“Knowledge Bank has really made its name in the mortgage industry, winning multiple awards for technology and innovation. Knowledge Bank is aligned with how I see the future of the mortgage industry and how technology can be used to further evolve the way both lenders and intermediaries operate. It has exciting plans to change the data that lenders and intermediaries have access to, further changing the way decisions are made through cutting-edge technology. With this investment, it will expand its suite of products and services and to digitise and further transform the way the mortgage industry works."
Nicola Firth, CEO of Knowledge Bank, says: "It has been an exciting few years for Knowledge Bank as we have lead the charge in digitising criteria research solutions. Innovation has been in our DNA from the very beginning and the time is right for us to scale up and bring our plans for the bigger picture into play and Ying is the perfect partner for us to move forwards with. Ying is an incredibly well-respected figure in the mortgage industry and adept at using technology to create new solutions. I’ve watched with admiration what he has built up and the remarkable and authentic way in which he has done this.
“We are delighted to have Ying and Penny join our board as we enter another exciting period of growth. We look forward to continuing to positively disrupt the market with the same passion and pioneering thought leadership that has revolutionised lending criteria research for both brokers and lenders so far."
