HSBC Appoints Georges Elhedery as Group Chief Executive

Georges Elhedery officially assumes the position of Group Chief Executive of HSBC today.

Elhedery, who joined HSBC in 2005, brings nearly three decades of experience in the financial services sector, having held various high-profile international roles. Before his appointment as Group Chief Executive, he served as Group Chief Financial Officer and was previously Co-CEO of Global Banking & Markets and Head of Markets & Securities Services.

Throughout his career, Elhedery has held senior leadership positions across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, demonstrating a strong track record in leading change, driving growth, simplifying processes, and maintaining cost efficiency.

He has a proven ability to lead through change and focus on execution. The Board is eager to collaborate with Georges as he guides HSBC through its next phase of development and growth."

Elhedery succeeds Noel Quinn, who retires today after nearly five years as Group Chief Executive.

Jon Bingham, Global Financial Controller, has been appointed Interim Group Chief Financial Officer while the search for a permanent successor is conducted.
