There’s a reason why #palemalestale was trending on Twitter – and not in a good way. Back in 2018, we looked at why gender equality in asset management wasn’t bad, but not particularly good either:

“78% of asset management firms think their policies on gender equality are “good to very good”, yet only 26% believe the industry in general falls under the same category” – IBS Intelligence

At TSAM Boston, we discovered more about the lack of gender diversity from keynote speaker, Dominica Ribeiro – State Street Global Advisors’ Head of Institutional Marketing, North America – during her Fearless Girl presentation and exclusive interview.

In the lead-up to the event, we partnered with BackBay Communications to survey 42 senior decision makers at asset management companies, ranging from boutique firms (with less than $1 billion AUM) to global investment managers (with over $1 trillion AUM). Our aim: to learn how gender inclusion and ethnic diversity is viewed in the asset management industry.

The professionals we polled hail from all areas of operations, with 24% of our respondents in the marketing communications and risk management sectors headquartered in North America and Europe.

Take a closer look at our findings, which include:

  • Importance of Diversity
  • Ethnic Diversity
  • Gender Diversity
  • Progress in Corporate Diversity
  • Future Outlook
