The failure of Northern Rock is still being felt even today in the UK.

Its collapse, and the wider financial crisis, really dented consumers’ trust in traditional banks forever. Even now, 55% of consumers believe that banks aren’t working in their best interests. The event was really the beginning of consumers becoming quite sceptical of traditional banks and looking for alternative and new ways to bank.

Ten years on, Northern Rock’s dissolution means that banks simply can’t take their customers for granted ever again.

Fidor Bank was created at the onset of this crisis, based on a new concept of how people could bank by putting customers at the heart of our approach. We created an active, online community for our members to share their financial knowledge and help each other build wealth.
