Confluent, founded by the creators of open source Apache KafkaTM, today announced that it partnered with DataStax, the leading provider of database software for cloud applications, to provide a solution so joint customers can easily connect Apache Kafka and Apache CassandraTM for enterprise workloads. Confluent Platform enables companies to easily access data as real-time streams and make it available throughout the organization. With the Certified DataStax Connector, applications can more easily leverage DataStax Enterprise (DSE) and Cassandra with Kafka for streaming data, allowing organizations to drive business value from data.

“Today’s agile applications must digest enormous amounts of information, remain highly scalable and respond instantly,” said Barry Evans, Head of Technology Partner Development at DataStax. “The partnership with Confluent empowers DataStax users and the entire Apache CassandraTM community to capture the value of real-time data through streaming applications."

The Certified DataStax Connector utilizes Kafka Connect, a framework included in Apache Kafka that integrates Kafka with other systems. It enables data integration by offering a common framework that allows stream data to flow between various systems and makes it easy to add new systems to scalable and secure stream data pipelines.

As part of the growing community around Kafka Connect, this connector is a result of a partnership between Confluent, DataStax and DataMountaineer, a services and consulting company that specializes in delivering certified connectors that leverage Kafka Connect.

“As a utility and trading company we deal with lots of time series. Think of gas and power prices and forecasting the energy supply and demand of power plants, windmills, solar panels, charging cars and client portfolios at each given moment of the day. We want to interact with this information stream, to be responsive to events that happen in the energy markets and analyze it historically to see patterns, to learn and to improve. This is why an architecture with both Confluent and Cassandra serves us well. At Eneco, we are proud of our contribution to the Cassandra connector in collaboration with DataMountaineer,” said Joshua Ratha, Product Owner of Eneco Data Hub and Trader.

“The DataStax Enterprise connector demonstrates how customers are able to easily integrate systems to capitalize on stream data and create business value,” said Jabari Norton, vice president of business development at Confluent. “By leveraging Kafka Connect, enterprises can seamlessly create connectors to any system in their enterprise and build a robust real-time data pipeline with Confluent Platform.”
