Ahead of Valentine’s Day, MuchBetter, the pioneer in wearable payment technology, has settled an age-old debate: What brings more happiness—love or money?

In a survey of 2,000 people conducted by MuchBetter, more than 44% said love is the key to happiness, while only 10% chose money.

Interestingly, younger respondents placed less emphasis on romance, with almost 18% of 16-24-year-olds prioritising money over love. Gender differences also emerged, with just under 8% of women choosing money compared to more than 12% of men.

Norwich proved to be the UK’s most sentimental city, with only 4% valuing money over love. In contrast, Greater London residents took a more pragmatic approach, with more than 16% prioritising financial security.

The good news? This Valentine’s Day, you don’t have to choose between love and money, you can have both.

Derrick Lynagh, Head of Strategic Sales and Partnerships at MuchBetter, commented: “This survey highlights how deeply personal and complex the relationship between love and money really is. For some, financial security is a cornerstone of happiness, while for others, love outweighs everything. We wanted to spark a conversation about whether money remains a taboo in relationships or if it’s the ultimate expression of commitment. Thanks to innovations in wearable paytech, it’s possible to have both love and money this Valentine’s Day. By gifting a MuchBetter payment ring, an innovative and functional alternative to traditional jewellery, you’re giving something that’s both meaningful and practical.”
