Volt, the global real-time payments platform, has appointed former Checkout.com Director of Product Mathew Tuvesson as its new VP of Product. Mathew will take centre point in delivering a new generation of Volt’s product suite, as the company ramps up its evolution and prepares to add stablecoin payments and treasury solutions to its real-time payments capabilities.

Founded in 2019, London-based Volt has been a real-time payments visionary and pioneer, and has been on a mission to unite domestic instant payment schemes into a single, interoperable platform. Currently, Volt offers seamless access to open banking and instant payments in the UK, Europe and Australia, connecting with 2,000 banks and bringing together a new generation of account-to-account payments infrastructure to a single point of access.

Moreover, Volt, which has EMI licences in the UK and EU, has engineered and developed a burgeoning suite of payment initiation, cash management and identity verification products for its clients, typically online businesses and merchants operating across multiple territories.

“Our long-stated ambition is to build a real-time global payments infrastructure which offers feature parity with cards, for merchants and for consumers. We’ve come a long way and we’re now going further and faster by focusing on real-time, account-based money movement – creating products squarely aligned with the needs of enterprise merchants,” says Steffen Vollert, CEO and Co-founder of Volt.

“As we enter a new era for real-time payments – one which will largely be defined by stablecoins – it’s exciting to have secured someone of Mat’s calibre to help Volt deliver on our renewed vision of global, real-time agnostic money movement.”

Mathew Tuvesson has spent the best part of the last decade on a hyperscaling journey with Checkout.com. “I’m excited to be joining Volt to help build the next generation of real-time payments products. Having been a part of a payments hyperscaling journey with Checkout.com, I’ve seen up close what it takes to operate payments products globally and how fast expectations around money movement are changing for both merchants and consumers. I believe real-time payments and stablecoins will drive the next wave of innovation in global, rail-agnostic real-time money movement, and I’m looking forward to building that future with the team at Volt,” says Mathew.
