Viamericas, a leading provider of remittance and international money transfer services, today announced that its Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel, Joe Massie, has been elected chairperson of the Money Services Business Association’s (MSBA) board of directors.

Now in its 10th year, the MSBA is a trade association focused on the non-bank money services industry, where Massie has been an active voice. Since 2022, he has chaired the association’s Government Relations Group, where he was a strong advocate for balanced and modernized approaches to compliance in the remittance and payments spaces. Massie’s work included drafting policy comments and meeting with regulators and legislators about the most pressing issues that the money transfer industry faces.

“The MSBA plays a critical role in representing and advocating for our industry and consumers,” said Massie. “We work to ensure that non-bank financial services providers have a strong, effective voice on issues critical to the industry. I’m honored to serve as Chair and look forward to continuing our efforts to promote the payments sector.”

“Joe’s expertise in the money transfer industry is invaluable to our organization, as evidenced by all the work he’s done for our Government Relations Group,” said Kathy Tomasofsky, Executive Director of the MSBA. “I am confident that his leadership will help us continue to keep pace with innovation and influence policy that sets our industry up for sustainable success.”

Massie is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and American University’s Washington College of Law, where he served on the Law Review.
