AFEX, one of the world's largest non-bank providers of global payment and risk management solutions, has appointed Wayne Mitchell as General Manager EMEA.

Mitchell’s appointment comes as AFEX extends its product set and local presence across Europe to support its growing client base of businesses and individuals. At the end of 2015, AFEX launched AFEX Offshore, its service for businesses in the Channel Islands and Gibraltar, while in 2016, the firm established a presence in Spain with the opening of its Madrid office as well as opening its second UK office in Manchester. In March this year AFEX launched PayFEX, a pre-paid Mastercard for corporates to manage corporate expenses, payroll and incentives.

“I am delighted that we have been able to appoint Wayne to lead AFEX’s development in Europe,” said Jan Vlietstra, Chief Executive Officer for AFEX. “He brings a huge amount of experience and has an excellent track record of leading payments businesses. We are convinced that Wayne is the right person to drive AFEX’s growth in EMEA at this exciting time for AFEX and the payments industry.”

Mitchell brings 30 years of leadership experience in the international payments and FX industry. Most recently he served as CEO at payments firm Baydonhill plc between 2006 and 2016 and prior to that held management positions at US headquartered business-to-business payments firm, Ruesch International.

“I am excited to be joining this excellent team that combines the very best in expertise, technology, customer service and value in the international payments space,” said Mitchell, who is based at AFEX’s London offices on The Strand. “I look forward to contributing to AFEX’s growth across Europe and overseeing the development of new and innovative payments technologies as we look to service the needs of our expanding client base.”

Mitchell replaces Stuart Holmes who assumes a new role as EMEA Sales Director, with responsibility for managing AFEX’s 94-strong sales force in the EMEA region.
