Today, we’re announcing a chat extension that enables invoicing within Facebook Messenger. The new extension will allow transactions that occur over Messenger to leverage the power and secure transactions that PayPal customers expect. The PayPal chat extension for invoicing allows sellers to create and send a PayPal Invoice directly within a Messenger conversation - complete with price and image - for the buyer to act on immediately; allowing the entire transaction to occur within the conversation. Whether the transaction is agreed upon at a garage sale, or any other environment, sellers can use the invoicing chat extension to quickly, securely and easily receive payment.

Commerce is continuously expanding into new contexts. With the explosion of mobile apps, new commerce opportunities have been created and consumers are looking to make purchases in-context, without leaving those applications. PayPal is focused on helping merchants and consumers connect across a range of contexts including these new, emerging arenas.

We already enable many of these experiences, like person-to-person commerce within Messenger. This use of Messenger is just the latest example of how we are exploring and enabling commerce in new contexts - building on the existing work we’ve done to help consumers and businesses use the PayPal platform to send and receive payments through other Facebook experiences.

To use PayPal’s invoicing extension, a user simply needs to open the extension tray, select PayPal and create the invoice with some simple details - item name, description, price, and quantity - before sending it off to the buyer. From there, the buyer presses “Pay with PayPal” and can complete the transaction seamlessly with PayPal One Touch.

We will continue partnering across the ecosystem to help simplify payment experiences and create seamless connections between consumers and merchants wherever commerce might be occurring.
