PayPal is expanding its global payments platform with the addition of more than 30 local payment methods, introduced in cooperation with PPRO, its long-standing technology provider. The expansion helps merchants better serve international shoppers by offering the payment options people already know and trust in their local markets. New additions include Swish in Sweden, MB WAY in Portugal, and BLIK Pay Later in Poland, as well as popular options beyond Europe such as Pix in Brazil.

Consumers are increasingly buying from overseas retailers, but they still expect to pay using methods they know and trust. By offering local payment options through PayPal, online retailers can help to make checkout smoother, may improve conversion rates, and can increase customer satisfaction among international shoppers. This is especially important for online retailers looking to grow beyond their home market.

“The European international ecommerce market has reached nearly €359 billion, creating significant growth opportunities for all businesses looking to expand beyond their home countries,” said Samba Natarajan, SVP and General Manager for Europe at PayPal. “However, even when consumers shop globally, they want to pay with the payment methods they know and trust at home. By expanding the local payment options available through PayPal, we are helping merchants reduce friction at checkout and reach more shoppers around the world.”

Motie Bring, CEO at PPRO, said: “Our collaboration with PayPal is built on a shared mission to make local payments more accessible for global commerce. By integrating more than 30 new local payment methods into PayPal’s platform, we are connecting global merchants with more shoppers around the world. This isn't just about adding a payment method; it's about giving international shoppers the checkout experience they trust while enabling merchants to expand into new markets with ease.”

With this expansion, PayPal now supports a wide range of locally preferred payment methods worldwide, including bank transfers, digital wallets, and cash-based payment solutions. The collaboration brings together PayPal’s global payments network and PPRO’s expertise in local payment infrastructure, helping merchants offer the payment options customers expect in different markets. For shoppers, it means being able to pay with familiar methods when purchasing from international merchants.
