Award winning Software developer bootcamp Makers  today announced the opening for submissions to the UK’s Women in Software Awards 2022. Aimed at the talented women of the coding community, it spotlights 20 emerging leaders across software development and the amazing work they do. Focusing on what they’ve achieved rather than where they are in their careers, the list aims to celebrate the progress, impact, and innovation of talented women in tech.

Winners of the Women in Software Awards will be announced on June 16th, 2022.

Now in its fourth year, the Women in Software Awards initiative calls on members of the tech community – both men and women – to nominate and submit the names of women colleagues who should be recognised for their contribution. Women who work in software can also nominate themselves. All nominees must be working in the sector for six years or less, and be able to demonstrate unique talent and vision in their respective positions.

Each nominee should meet the following criteria, which Makers use to define impact:

1. Growth – in learning and leadership

2. Influence – in the community and among peers

3. Innovation – contributing to interesting projects at work or independently

A panel of judges will select the top 20 women from the nominations, including Tanya Powel, Co-CTO of Coding Black Females and Kimberly Cook, Director of Codebar and Amit Sinha, Chief Technology Officer at Microsoft. Those selected will be included on the Women in Software Power List and announced at a celebratory event in September.

Last year, the Power List celebrated rising stars from large and diverse organisations such as  American Express, LEGO group, Charlotte Tilbury and Aviva as well as newer companies and community groups such as Bloom & Wild, Code First Girls, and Muslamic Makers.

Makers is opening submissions for its Changemakers List, which recognises the importance of allyship in supporting the progress of women and gender minorities in the tech industry.  Mentors of all genders as well as organisations that support and accelerate the careers of women in tech can be nominated. From demonstrating support to launching initiatives, these trailblazers represent the change they want to see in making software development a more inclusive and progressive space for everyone.

For both categories, the deadline for submission is May 2. Nominations can be submitted online.

“We are thrilled to continue our initiative in shining a spotlight on the incredible women joining the software industry,” said Claudia Harris, CEO of Makers. “Recognising the accomplishments of exceptional women in the sector is critical to bringing the community closer together and inspiring others to consider a career in the digital economy. We look forward to receiving nominations across the UK and celebrating the incredible talent that is helping to shape the world we live in.”

Winners of the Women in Software Awards will be invited to join an evening reception during London Tech Week on June 16th.
