Metamako continues to lead the market in ultra-low latency devices for the trading community, exchanges and telco providers with the launch of MetaApp. The new technology is the latest in a series of innovations from the company and is the first to effectively combine three core components: a layer-1+ switch, an FPGA and an x86 server. MetaApp is designed for flexibility: this unique platform builds on the functionality of Metamako devices (MetaConnect 16, MetaConnect 48 and MetaMux) and allows for easy development of applications by Metamako and, for the first time, third party vendors and financial institutions.

Ciaran Kennedy, Metamako's New York-based business development manager, said: "Our clients have been very supportive of this development and are excited at the breadth of applications which will be available in MetaApp. The possibilities for this are almost endless: from data capture to intrusion detection, firewalls, feed handlers and even pre-trade risk checking. Some of our clients have been beta testing the platform since February and already have custom applications in production.”

MetaApp allows financial services firms to reduce the number of physical devices between their trading applications and the execution venues, simplifying the overall architecture for trading platforms, significantly reducing latency and increasing determinism.

Dr. Dave Snowdon, founder and co-CTO of Metamako, said: "Twenty years ago John Gage, then Chief Scientist of Sun Microsystems, coined the Silicon Valley truism, ‘The Network Is the Computer’ and MetaApp does just that. It’s a really powerful, easily-configurable platform which puts computational intelligence at the network edge – edge intelligence. It allows firms to put their most important business logic within network devices rather than distributed across multiple physical devices. We've packed many useful components into a single device, lowering the hurdle for users to build their own edge intelligence."  He adds: “Metamako's philosophy is to get out of the developer's way. We don't provide over-complicated frameworks, just simple tools for developers to get their applications up and running, debugged, and into production quickly. We're keen to help make their lives easier.”

MetaApp provides the flexibility for future growth, with new features, upgrades and applications delivered by Metamako and its partners via downloadable software updates.

Metamako will be exhibiting at The Trading Show Chicago 2015 3-4 June. Please visit us at stand 222
