Covertix announces the availability of complete email protection within its SmartCipherTM suite of data-centric security solutions. Both messages and attachments are protected with rules-based classification, ensuring that data is secure everywhere it travels, within and external to the organization.

"For many companies, email continues to be a primary collaboration tool for sharing content within the organization and externally. Being able to secure email messages—as well as the associated attachments—is critical to closing potential security gaps," says Mike Mahon, President and CEO of Zia Consulting. "With Covertix, users are able to continue working with their existing systems, from Outlook to Gmail, while complete rules-based protection is applied automatically."
SmartCipher protects sensitive data in motion, in use, and at rest, anywhere and anytime. Email messages – both the content and attachments – now can be fully controlled by preassigned classification policies.

With the new features, email can be accessed only by the designated users, devices, location, and/or role. Administrators can change access on the fly, in real time, so if someone’s role has changed, separation of duties can be enforced, even with already opened messages. Emails can also be quickly and securely recalled, without the accidental recipient being able to view, change or print anything. The addition of email protection does not interfere with “traditional” abilities within email – messages can be searched, previewed, and authenticated.

“Security needs to follow the data, no matter its format or location,” says Tzach Kauffman, CTO and founder of Covertix. “Adding email protection secures confidential data via another external delivery channel.”

Covertix technology brings email protection to both email solutions on the desktop and the cloud without interfering with business processes. It adds an extra layer of security protection to Outlook and Google for Business with specific features targeting the Office365 platform like automatic Outlook folder encryption to help cope with the drafts folder now hosted on the cloud.

Administrators can automatically classify specific types of email to be protected, or users can decide on a case-by-case basis which messages to protect, based on the requirements of the specific organization. Covertix email technology adds substantial value even if the customer is already using S/mime. It further strengthens security if they aren’t.

“Although email is an integral part of doing business, it has always been a significant source of data leakage,” Kaufmann continued. “With our email protection feature, now that channel’s security is completely locked down.”
