Tandem, the fintech app for modern couples, is changing the way shared finances are managed. Co-founders Michelle Winterfield and Daniel Couvreur, both finance professionals, identified the challenges faced by unmarried couples when combining their financial lives. As more couples are choosing to marry later, there is a reluctance to fully merge finances, yet a desire to enjoy the benefits. Tandem was launched in August 2023 as a subscription-based app that simplifies shared expenses for couples. It allows them to plan, save, and spend together without the need for a joint account. The app has already garnered over 25,000 users and manages $60 million in expenses. Recently, Tandem secured $3.7 million in funding.

The app's user-friendly setup involves connecting credit and debit cards and offering a shared expense pot for automated money transfers, eliminating the need for a joint account. Tandem's platform offers a unique feature called 'Goals' that enables couples to collaboratively plan and save for shared purchases, promoting financial alignment. Investors, such as Corazon Capital, acknowledge that Tandem is addressing the distinct challenges faced by couples when managing their finances. Unlike its competitors, which mainly provide shared debit cards, Tandem prioritizes an automated, consumer-centric experience that evolves continuously with user input. Tandem plans to use the recently acquired capital to launch the 'Goals' feature, expand marketing efforts, and introduce an Android app. The company is committed to revolutionizing how couples navigate financial independence within their relationships.
