Propel, a leading tech company for low-income Americans, celebrates its 10th anniversary with new initiatives funded by a $3.5 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This funding will support Propel's development of AI-powered tools to enhance safety net navigation.

Since launching America’s first free mobile app for checking EBT balances, Propel has helped 15 million users check their balances over 5.5 billion times. The new grant will enable Propel to introduce advanced features, including suspicious transaction monitoring and enhanced security options, addressing the growing concern over benefit theft.

Propel’s app, now trusted by over 5 million households monthly, will also be rebranded from ‘Providers’ to ‘Propel’ for greater clarity.

Founded in August 2014, Propel aims to simplify and secure the safety net experience for millions of Americans.
