Feather, the pioneering digital insurance platform tailored for European expats, announced today the successful closure of a €6 million funding round. This investment was led by Keen Venture Partners, with significant participation from Plural and senior leaders from industry giants including Allianz, AXA, and Bastian. Notable investors joining Feather’s cap table include Monzo founder Tom Blomfield, Matt Robinson of GoCardless and Nested, N26’s CTO Gino Cordt, and Oyster founder Tony Jamous.

This latest funding milestone brings Feather’s total raised capital to €10 million, following its initial funding round in 2021. The infusion of funds will propel Feather’s expansion across new European markets, facilitating the development of a comprehensive pan-European insurance product designed to seamlessly adapt to the needs of expatriates as they relocate from country to country.

Founded in 2018 by Rob Schumacher and Vincent Audoire during Entrepreneur First’s inaugural Berlin cohort, Feather emerged from the founders' personal challenges navigating Germany’s complex insurance landscape. Their vision was to create an intuitive, transparent, and flexible insurance solution specifically tailored for the diverse needs of expats across Europe.

Feather’s unique approach integrates a purpose-built, modular full-stack technology platform that combines the agility of a tech startup with the reliability of established insurance providers. This technological backbone allows Feather to manage all facets of the insurance process internally, from policy documentation to claims processing, ensuring regulatory compliance and delivering an enhanced user experience consistently rated 4.9 stars on platforms like TrustPilot and Google.

With over 50 million expatriates currently residing and working in Europe, Feather addresses a critical market need for accessible, straightforward insurance solutions. The expatriate health insurance sector alone is projected to reach $67.92 billion by 2031, underscoring the growing demand for transparent and adaptable insurance products that cater to mobile populations.

Commenting on the funding round, Rob Schumacher, co-founder of Feather, expressed enthusiasm for the company’s future prospects: “Our mission has always been clear: to build an insurance platform that not only meets the needs of today’s expats but does so with transparency, simplicity, and trust. This funding represents a vote of confidence in our vision and our technology, and we are excited about the opportunities it opens up for us to serve the expat community across Europe even better.”
