Billon Solutions and Microsoft to Bring DLT to Polish Universities

Billon Solutions sp. z o. o., a fully owned subsidiary of Billon Group in the UK, signed a cooperation agreement with the Center for Research on Legal Aspects of Blockchain Technology, operating at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw. Under the agreement, the parties will be able to support each other in their academic and expert work on blockchain. The cooperation can be also expanded to include joint initiatives implementing DLT solutions in the university environment.

Robert Kałuża, Billon’s Chief Operating Officer, comments: - Cooperation with the best Polish university is another step towards the widespread use of a breakthrough distributed ledger technology. Together with experts from the University of Warsaw, we will explore the potential of introducing this technology to the academia. I am convinced that the university will benefit from such functionalities as document immutability or instant money transfers.

The agreement was signed by the Center’s manager, Dr Sławomir Żółtek and his deputies, Prof. Marcin Wiącek and Atty Michał Dymiński. The dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Tomasz Giaro, also attended the ceremony.

Dr Sławomir Żółtek comments: - An agreement with the leading Polish fintech is another step in the activities of the Center for Research on Legal Aspects of Blockchain Technology. At numerous business and academic conferences, our experts discussed the possibilities and benefits of the widespread use of distributed ledger technology. Cooperation with Billon confirms these statements and provides the opportunity to introduce DLT to the academic community.

The cooperation project between Billon and the University of Warsaw will receive help from Microsoft Poland. The Polish branch of Microsoft will provide access to Azure cloud services.

We believe a joint creation of secure scenarios will enable the development of projects associated with securing and streamlining the exchange of academic documents.

The Center for Research on Legal Aspects of Blockchain Technology was established by the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw in 2019. Its purpose is to deliver the analytical and expert knowledge necessary to incorporate DLT into the national and international legal order. Research conducted by the Center includes regulations (STO/ICO, digital currencies, distributed ledger in public administration), civil law (smart contracts), international issues (jurisdiction over cross-border online projects) and criminal law (liability for illegal public offering).
