Spectra Logic, a leading developer of data storage solutions, announces today that it hit a milestone few companies in the IT industry have reached, namely the celebration of its 40th year of business. Behind this impressive achievement is a history of technology innovation, customer commitment, and focus on excellence. Original founder and CEO, Nathan Thompson, continues to lead the company in its dedication to delivering innovative storage solutions that preserve digital data for organisations around the world.

With the transformation of the data storage industry over the last 40 years, Spectra Logic’s agile and inventive approach has led to more than 120 patents and an expanding portfolio of award- winning solutions that have been deployed in more than 80 countries. Offering a wide solution set that includes tape, disk, object and hybrid cloud storage, Spectra has developed strategic partnerships with several Fortune 50 organisations as well with a global network of resellers who sell and distribute Spectra solutions in media and entertainment, education, government, finance, energy and high-performance computing environments, among many other industries.

"Over the last 40 years, we’ve witnessed a dramatic transformation in data creation, retention, and usage,” said Spectra Logic CEO Nathan Thompson. "I am very proud that, year after year, we have anticipated the IT challenges of our customers and have kept pace by delivering enterprise-class data storage offerings that often exceed their data-driven needs. The next 40 years will be extremely exciting for the technology industry, with data storage and management solutions coming together to play a critical role in helping organisations streamline operational efficiencies, satisfy customers and hit business goals. Everyone at Spectra Logic is singularly focused on taking our company to the next leg of this journey."

Over the course of the company’s history, Spectra Logic made impressive strides in technology advancements, recently releasing the world’s largest data storage machine capable of protecting more than 2,000 petabytes (2 exabytes) of data. The success of the Spectra TFinity Tape Library highlights a renewed confidence in tape technologies and underscores the endurance and capacity of this lasting storage medium. For instance, in 1979, Spectra Logic’s first year, a tape cartridge held 256 kilobytes. Today, the modernised Spectra Logic tape cartridge holds a whopping 50,000,000,000 kilobytes or 50 terabytes of compressed data.*

“For four decades, Spectra’s data storage solutions, including its disk, object storage and world- class tape libraries have met or exceeded customer expectations at cost-effective price points,” said Fred Moore, president of Horison Information Strategies. “It’s extremely rare in the data storage industry to see a company with such an enduring cadence of leadership, product offerings and technology innovations.”

In recognition of this outstanding achievement, Colorado Governor Polis proclaimed today, August 1, 2019, as ‘Spectra Logic Day’ throughout the State of Colorado, stating, “Spectra's broad data storage accomplishments have helped to fuel the Colorado economy for four decades, advancing technology innovation and the IT industry by delivering best-in-class solutions that help customers better store, manage, access, share and preserve their invaluable data for the long term.”
