Sibos 2016 Geneva Will be Opened by Chairman of the Swiss National Bank

Sibos announces that Thomas J. Jordan, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank, the central bank of Switzerland, will give the opening address at Sibos 2016 in Geneva.

Mr. Jordan joined the Swiss National Bank (SNB) as an Economic Advisor in 1997. In 2002, he was appointed Head of Research and, in 2004, Head of Financial Markets. In 2007, the Federal Council appointed him Member of the SNB’s Governing Board, in 2010, Vice Chairman and, in 2012, Chairman. The Sibos opening address is a prominent role designed to highlight the current state, and future of the financial industry, while setting the tone for the pivotal topics of the week.

“Mr Jordan has been at the heart of Switzerland’s monetary policy and of the international central bank community for over a decade,” says Sven Bossu, Head of Sibos. “He is well placed to talk about both the country’s financial evolution, but also that of the global industry, drawing on his prominent role at international institutions. We welcome Mr. Jordan to the Sibos agenda and look forward to his industry insights.”

Mr. Jordan received his PhD in economics from the University of Berne in 1993. Following a three-year post-doctoral research position at the Department of Economics at Harvard University, the University of Berne appointed him lecturer in 1998 and honorary professor in 2003. He has written numerous articles in leading academic journals.

Mr. Jordan is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel and the Steering Committee of the Financial Stability Board (FSB). He is also the Governor of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Switzerland as well as Chairman of the G10 Central Bank Counterfeit Deterrence Group (CBCDG).

Sibos 2016 takes place at the Palexpo in Geneva on 26-29 September.
