Akana announced that its Akana Platform will power the app development efforts at the upcoming Barclays Hackathon. By joining forces with Barclays to sponsor the July 20-21 Hackathon, Akana and Barclays will showcase the same technology that the bank itself is using to manage APIs in its Barclays Developer Network (BDN), a strategic platform for exposing and managing APIs external to Barclays.

“We’re excited to be working with our client Barclays on this innovation-intensive event,” said Roberto Medrano, Executive VP of Akana. “This hackathon is a great opportunity to start engaging with the Barclays developer community and support Barclays as they continue to drive innovation with API’s being a key enabler to underpin that.”

Akana will set up and host APIs on their platform. Developers participating at the Hackathon will be using the Akana Platform to manage access and consumption of APIs by their apps. Akana will make a presentation during the event and will provide participants with thought leadership materials and education on API management and security both before and after the event. Akana staff will be available during the Hackathon to coach participants in the Akana Platform, API Management and troubleshoot any issues that arise. The company will also support any post-Hackathon deployment of prototypes that are developed there.

Akana underpins the BDN. Alongside branch, web and mobile, APIs could be another channel to market and possibly the biggest channel over time.

The Akana Platform provides an end-to-end API Management solution for designing, implementing, securing, managing, monitoring, and publishing APIs. It is available as a SaaS platform, on-premises, and as a hybrid deployment. Recently Akana was recognized as most promising banking technology solution provider and the Cloud Platform Innovation winner.
