AIB Mobile Banking App allows users open digital accounts

AIB is making our customers’ lives easier and eliminating pinch points for them. The latest upgrade to the AIB Mobile Banking App, which has just launched, now allows new customers to join AIB and open their Personal Current Account by using just their smartphone and their passport from the comfort of their home from 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week.

With 850,000 customer using the AIB Mobile Banking App (up 20% year on year), on an average daily basis, it is clear that customers love the convenience of using their Smartphone to manage their everyday financial needs. 

By simply downloading the AIB Mobile App, new customers will now be able to open their Current Account in minutes from the comfort of their couch from 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week.

Customers simply need:
• A Smartphone
• The AIB Mobile Banking App
• An Email address & Mobile No.
• Their EEA passport 
and must also be 18 years or over and an Irish resident.

Once in the AIB Mobile App, customers simply follow the key steps which will 
• Capture their address and other key details
• Verify their email and mobile numbers
• Launch a Video call to a dedicated agent who will verify their Identity using their passport 

Once complete, the customer will receive a letter in the post with a unique activation code. They can then login to the AIB Mobile App and key this code in to complete the process. Once verified their Account is fully active and their Debit card and PIN will be automatically sent to them.

Sean Jevens, AIB Head of Digital Channel Development said “The AIB Mobile Banking App has proved hugely popular with our customers. With over 300 million customer visits in 2017, it has become the key channel for customers to manage their finances, to transact or purchase new products. We saw a real demand to also bring this convenience and flexibility to the account opening process for new customers. This new feature means customers won’t need to go to a branch, make a call, find, copy or post documents when opening their account. ”

The initial launch is targeted at opening personal current accounts for adults with potential to extend to other in future phases, e.g. students. Also, where a customer has previously held a product with AIB, they will not be eligible for this process.
