Kohl Payment - Another Inadequate App

The launch of Kohl's own payment app is another signal of the payment and smart phone industries’ inadequate response to retailer needs. Retailers want to know their customer and create personalised loyalty programs via an app that offers a unique brand experience. Mobile payment is only one part of the experience, but not the end itself.

As a result of this, the larger retail chains are resorting to in-house built apps which no doubt will appeal to their core customer base but will fail to reach a much larger pool of potential customers.

We will soon see a phenomenon of app fatigue where customers fail to keep up or engage with the hundreds of apps, each supplying individual benefits or singular brand experiences.

What is needed is a single destination payment & loyalty app that provides retailers with their unique brand presence and customised loyalty programs and delivers a suite of value-add functions for consumers.
